TYPHOON is an integral field spectroscopic (IFS) survey of 44 nearby, large angular-sized (>3') galaxies with the 2.5m du Pont Telescope at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. The survey has been completed and we are in the process of preparing for the first public data release in early 2025.
The observations use the Progressive Integral Step Method (PrISM; see below), also known as the 'step-and-stare' method. The primary motivation for selecting large angular-sized galaxies is that long-slit stepping can be an efficient and cost-effective method relative to mosaicking of traditional integral field units.
